2014 | ‘Raphaella’ syrah
COLDSTREAM, YARRA VALLEY

Harvested three days after the birth of our first child, Raphaella amidst surreal celebrations of life, it’s sense of humour and its beautiful moments.  This wine also reflects my relationship with one of the great vineyards of Australia. Yeringberg is a jewel of the Yarra Valley.

2015 | ‘volta brackets’ marsanne
COLDSTREAM, YARRA VALLEY

Aside from its tardy ripening tendencies, the 2015 ferment was slow and steady. Winemaking was very stripped back - all about texture, character and freshness.  Textured, mineral and moreish, this is the vineyard in a glass from another stunning Yarra Valley vintage.

2014 | ‘Warramunda Reprise’ Marsanne
COLDSTREAM, YARRA VALLEY

Marsanne is never in a hurry. Aside from its tardy ripening tendencies, the 2015 ferment was slow and steady. Winemaking was very stripped back – all about texture, character and freshness.

2012 | ‘flute d’amour’ rose
AOC VENTOUX, France

My relationship with the La Verriere vineyard began in 2010 having briefly relocated to the southeast of France to explore the diversity of Southern Rhone and the flavours of Provence. High up in the mountains of the Ventoux, Grenache and Syrah bathe in the fragrance of Mediterranean and Alpine flora.

2010 | ‘LE PÈLERIN’ GRENACHE SYRAH
CRESTET, VAUCLUSE, France

La Verrière is one of the highest located vineyards in France’s south-east. Perched above the tiny hamlet of Crestet, the biodynamic site rests on pebbly, calcareous terrain. Here, Grenache and Syrah express immense purity, depth, grace and intensity. This altitude brings balance and poise to the big fruit and rugged structure.

2013 | ‘under woods’ syrah
steels creek, YARRA VALLEY

I had intended to make a 2012 from this vineyard, but the entire property was decimated by hail. That was that, but all turned out for the best. 2013 was an absolutely stellar vintage for syrah in the Yarra Valley, and was particularly special for Under Woods.

2011 | ‘warramunda’ Marsanne
COLDSTREAM, YARRA VALLEY

While its true personality can take considerable time to shine, Marsanne’s flashy youth can be just as infectious. Time reveals richer derivatives of lemon meringue, honeycomb, sandalwood-honey and white truffle. The palate is balanced and long with a lusciousness that is tamed by a glacial, slatey minerality.

2010 | Roussanne
Goulburn VALLEY, CENTRAL VICTORIA

I’ve always considered Roussanne to be quite glamorous. This wine offers enticing floral and perfume nuances of frangipani, lavender and clove entwined with a lavish stone fruit core. I also love the citrus twist and dried herb charm unraveling in the glass.

2012 | ‘Warramunda Encore’ Marsanne
COLDSTREAM, YARRA VALLEY

I love the layering of aromas and flavours in this wine. Ethereal citrus, floral tones mingle with deeper characters of stone fruit, honeysuckle and brioche. This is the Warramunda vineyard in a glass from a stunning Yarra Valley Vintage.

2012 | ‘MALAKOFF vineyard’ syrah
LANDSBOROUGH, PYRENEES

The picturesque Pyrenees region of Victoria is a treasure. I love the presence and energy showcased by the Malakoff Vineyard, and the fragrance and clarity of fruit. There are high-tones of perfume and spice that evolve and linger. This wine has a long future…

2009 | Ben Haines SYRAH
Goulburn Valley, CENTRAL VICTORIA

I love how Syrah so honestly tells of its origins. Deep red and black fruits, evocative spice, perfume scents and a refined minerality are all on display as a true reflection of the vineyard. Nagambie Lakes is largely defined by its ancient riverine landscapes, invigorating lakes and billabongs, and some of the oldest vines in the world.
