Mada Wines

In ’16, after a decade at Canberra’s Eden Road Wines (see separate listing), Kiwi-born winemaker Hamish Young bottled and released the 1st wines under his own Mada label. His intent? To showcase (and show off) the Canberra, Hilltops and Tumbarumba regions by sourcing exceptional fruit from thoughtful growers and turning it into expressive, terroir-driven wines. Drinkability and approachability are central, particularly in the Liquid range (duly packaged in a variety of bright, eye-catching colours) and the experimental Sui Generis range, but it’s in the premium Single Vineyard range where Hamish’s talent really shines. Among the latter is a riesling which comes from a 30yo vineyard in Gundaroo, east of Murrumbateman, that Hamish co-leases with friend and fellow winemaker Nick O’Leary. -ANNA WEBSTER
