Our Review
Justin Bubb and Anna Pooley each have more than 20 years’ experience making benchmark wines. Justin oversees winery operations and management while Anna takes care of vineyard liaisons and harvest. In ’21 they established their own brand, with an aspiration to make wines that are ‘raw, expressive and speak of place’. Their inaugural release comprised fruit purchased from friends: riesling from Pressing Matters, pinot noir and chardonnay from Brinktop and syrah from Milton Vineyard. Fermentation and maturation are largely in handcrafted concrete vessels of different shapes, chosen to enhance the texture of each variety. In late ’22, they purchased an established vineyard at Campania in the Coal River Valley, with 8000 vines of pinot noir and 2500 each of chardonnay and cabernet planted in ’00, with plans to expand the plantings in years to come. -TYSON STELZER
